Blog

I heard on the radio recently that even the Athiests are concerned over worldwide disorder. Is this world coming to end they ask? Even the blind sense cataclysmic events from weather, natural disasters to global economies to the breakdown of infrastructures. People around the world without Christ don't understand, there is plenty of fear of the unknown.

Christians have been given the key to the mystery surrounding prophetic events.

The world has been in the process of preparation.  God is preparing this old world for it's final chapter.  He compares its last days to a pregnant women in travail.  Towards the end of day, our known world will give us pain just like a woman delivering her child.

So what do we do?  Do we move forward with biblical knowledge and continue to win souls for Christ or do we retreat in fear.

Hello,

My name is Hector Rodriguez, Pastor at Journey Baptist Church, West Columbia, South Carolina.

Greetings and a warm welcome to you from the south.

Just over a year ago we embarked on a journey to launch a brand new church.  Here we are one year later and I'm happy to report that our church plant is doing well.

If there is anything we have learned over the past year is that God shows up at all our activities, events, services, anywhere we are, He is there!  The second thing we have learned is that God is faithful.  He has blessed our church more than we had ever dreamed of.  I'm not talking about just material blessing, but about human intervention blessings.  The third things we have learned is that God loves Journey.

God has given us so much in twelve short months, we are besides ourselves.  In our first year, ten souls were saved, seven of which were baptized.  Three more will be getting baptized in due time.  Here's another example of material blessings; recently we began to redo one of our rooms to get it ready for an office, but we didn't want to spend any money on a desk, shelves, bookcases, etc.  So we put it to prayer.  Whola!  One month later, we rec'd a call from friends that they wish to donate two huge trailer loads chock full of office furniture.  Wow! Folks, I can't help but rejoice in the fact that God looks after His own.  We could go on and on about these kinds of blessings.

Starting a church is hard work.  It takes true teamwork to get the work done. We have a great team at Journey. People dedicated to winning souls to Christ. It takes a team willing to get out of the church setting and hit the streets.  Some say that can't do soul winning. That's unfortunate.  The Bible makes no distinction as to who is responsible to win souls.  In fact, it says we are all to get out there and share the story of Christ.

None of us have any idea when Christ will come back, but that's more reason to win more souls to Christ while we still have a chance.

Journey has been busy during the summer.

Seven Baptisms
If you haven't checked us out on the web, we invite you to do so at www.journeybaptistchurch.org.

This summer we did the Traveling Church, we had our first baptisms and more salvations, Our "Get the Info Out" campaign to all subdivisions in our community was officially completed a week ago.  We have a new dynamic children's director working on the scene.  A local resident donated land to the church.  Our music team keeps growing.  We are having our first Sunday School promotion day coming up, The blessings just continue.

New Ministry to Singles

Traveling Church
We are currently walking through the Bible by way of Ephesians, John, 1 Corinthians and Job for adults.  Our teens just completed 1 Samuel.

Journey will be celebrating it's first year anniversay on September 11, 2011.  The Gospel Trio "Mercy Rain" will be with us that morning for the worship service.

We are currently underway with organizational meetings to launch AWANA in the fall of 2011. We're certainly excited about this ministry.  In addition, we launched a ministry to singles in August.  This ministry is more social in nature for now.  We simply provide an avenue for get together's that provides a safe environment.  Devotions are always required at every function.  As this group develops, it will eventually be the seed to a Connection Group held on Sundays.

Church Motto:  We Love, He Changes!

Today was Memorial Day Sunday.  A day we honor and salute our fallen heroes from past and present wars and battles.
Journey Baptist recognizes all our men and women who are currently serving and salute those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to keep us free, to protect our national interests, who prevailed in adversity, who prepared for battle.

A man or women in uniform is our friend at Journey.  We love our military, our sailors, our airmen, our marines, all our service men and women in uniform.  They are bold, beautiful, courageous and compassionate.  They are the American shields to keep our country safer.

Thank you for serving our nation.
Our trumpeteers pay tribute to our fallen heroes by playing taps on their horns. It was awesome!
Some of our color guard display our flags at the start of the service.  Wait a minute, Jean and Gracie want to get in the action!

Our young people sing along in patriotic songs and display American flags.

New Members
Today we had another person join the church.  This person came as a result of door-to-door knocking.  It was exciting to see another come and join ranks with Journey.  It's also exciting to see how God is moving in our community.  Several members are now as a direct result of our door-to-door visitation.

Two weeks ago we a had another family join.  This family travels the shortest distance.  They live across the street from the church.

Salvations
It has been only a few days since a neighbor accepted Jesus as Savior.  On Friday May 27, we were out doing what we do in spreading the gospel and informing people of Journey Baptist Church when we came across a women who came outside to talk with us.  We had a wonderful conversion in general which eventually led to a transition where Jesus became the focus.  God promised that His Word is the power of salvation.  It didn't take long for our neighbor to feel God's moving through His Spirit when she prayed, confessed and accepted Jesus Christ as both Lord and Savior.  And the angels rejoiced!!  TTL!

Another adult accepts Christ.  Two weeks ago, a man received Jesus as Savior during the invitation.  It was heart warming to see a man get teary eyed over joy of doing the right thing.  Thank you Jesus!

On the same day, a young child said the sinner's prayer and gloriously receives Jesus as Savior.

Trip

Pastor Hector and Jean recently traveled to Springfield, Mo to be recognized and get the final stamp of approval for church planting.  We passed with flying colors.  On the way we saw how much the floods and tornadoes affected much of our country.

Keep our nation in your prayers.  Lot's of people are without homes, churches, businesses today as a result of these devasting storms and floods.

Until next month.www.journeybaptistchurch.org

Welcome!

God is so good!  If there's anything that we are witnessing at Journey is God's abundance of care, concern, and plenty of giving for His church.

We've had more people join and soon we'll be baptizing our first converts.

Here are some recent highlights:

Journey gets inspired by our first guest speaker Rev. Rosevelt Morris.  Rev. Morris spoke at the Prayer Breakfast and at the worship hour.  He spoke to us about prayer and I have to tell you, if you walked away without your blesser blest, you need to check yourself out to see if there is any life in there.  It was a great way to complement out Easter message following our corporate fast.  Thank you Rosevelt.

Speaking of the Prayer Breakfast, Wow!  What a delight it was to see the facility dressed up ready and fit for kings and queens.  A big thank you goes to all who made a great day even greater.  Thank you goes to Jimmy and Donna Smyrl, Hal and Sheri Goodwin, Rick and Whitney Grainger and Howard and Mary Edman.  Thank you guys!

Carey Farr

Hey you, in the back row, listen up
nobody talks when I talk...

Carey made his public debut by being the first announcer of church information.  Now if we can talk him into preaching.  Thanks Carey.

Children's Choir
Check out our brand new children's choir.  Thank you is due to Julius Craven and Jeannette Farr for teaching our children some of the coolest kids songs.  Good stuff!  These are the best looking children in all the world!

Easter Communion
Everybody examines their own hearts right before the elements to communion are distributed.  What a great Easter Day God granted us to enjoy.

Latest News

April has been an exciting month.

Easter Sunday crosses a new benchmark.  Journey filled the sanctuary with members and guests. It was so packed that the thermostat had to be set a subzero to keep things cool.

Sunrise Service
Journey has their first Sunrise service with almost 50 attending. The attendees sang songs, heard a message from the pastor and observed the Lord's Supper.

Surprize Boxes
Since the begining of Journey's journey, I have always made reference to boxes that God has given to the church as gifts.  These boxes continue to be recieved weekly for the church.  Recently, a Christian and American flag were donated by the Woodman's of America.

The church as also been a recipient of a brand new pulpit handcrafted by a local resident that has been attending.

An anonymous donor gave the church 60 brand new Celebration Hymnals.  These will be used and greatly appreciated.

Daybreak Ministries
The church has opened it's doors to Daybreak ministries.  The first week 7 young girls attended, the second week 8 girls particpated.
Daybreak is a ministry to give young people information so they may make informed life decisions on health, relationships, sex, pregnancies and other subjects.

The church embarked on a corporate fast during the month of April.  Many took part in Daniel's Fast for 21 days.  There is hardly a person that participated that was not changed in some way.

The church has invited Rosevelt Jones to speak at the prayer breakfast on May 1 and also at the worship hour.  We're looking forward to some great fellowship and preaching.

The Traveling Church
The church will go on the road during the summer on Sunday nights.  These meetings will be to emphasize family, cookouts, bible study and prayer.  We're excited about this weekly journey.

There have been great days at Journey and there have been greater days.

Plant and Jesus will give the increase!
This past Lord's Day we have experienced another "greater day".

Journey had 3 more people join and 4 young people accepted Jesus as Savior. TTL! A follow-up is in progress to confirm these commitments. Material for their follow-up discipleship will be given to all these new saints. God is Great! Plans are underway to baptize these new converts in our community.

BOB-G (Bunch of Baptist Gypsies)

The Traveling Church
Journey Baptist will is coming to a church near you. "The Traveling Church" is actually the name to what we're doing. It is not BOB-G. Starting in May for the Sunday night service, the service will be held at someone's home. There will be cookouts, potluck dinners, pizza's, with bible studies, prayer and just a great time together as family. Our schedule is yet to come. Check back later for that.

Celebrate Recovery
A yard sale is planned for April 16 from 6:30 AM - 2 PM. All proceeds will benefit our Celebrate Recovery Ministry. Please deliver you items to Dan and Cassie's home.

The goal of Celebrate Recovery is to overcome habits like sex disorders and drug addictions with a twelve-step program based on Christian principles.

April Fast

Starting April 3rd, the church will begin a fast. Each person or family will fast from 1 day to 21 days. The fast may be a total fast or a partial fast. For those doing the 21 day fast, we will follow The Daniel's Fast. Books and information is available at the church. We will end the fast on Saturday, April 23 the day before Easter Sunday. We're praying that lives will change and prayers will be answered during this time of fasting.

Sunrise Service
Journey will hold a sunrise service on April 24 at 6:30 AM at the church. Communion will be observed. Participants will be meeting for breakfast following this service.

Prophecy Series
Our series is underway.  We encourage our community to attend these services on Sunday nights through April.  Sunday night services start at 5:30 PM.
